Promise 184: Satisfy

  1. Satisfy

Psalm 103:5

Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things;

So that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

 Another benefit not to forget is that God satisfies me with good things. God has promised good things before and will do so again, the difference here, however, is that I will be satisfied with the good things. I will be content with the good things He is giving me; I shall not want; I will not lack any good thing; I will not envy; I will not covet; I will not be greedy; I will not crave. Craving usually has to do with the mouth where addictions often clamor for attention.

I will not have a craving for anything more or different than what God has already provided for my good, if I am satisfied. I can overcome any addiction because I am already satisfied. I am content and happy, my needs are met and my greeds are unnecessary, if I am satisfied. If I am satisfied: this is the key. If I am satisfied I would be at ease and living in comfort, contented and happy with my lot in life. This is my problem: I am not satisfied. I want more; I want something different; I want something new; I get covetous, greedy and envious.

For this reason it is important to believe the promises of God: He promises to satisfy my cravings with good things; He provides all I need. Either He keeps His promise or not; either He satisfies or He doesn’t. Which is it? He does! The problem is with me: I don’t believe that He has satisfied me with good things because I still want more, better, different. I disagree with God: He says He satisfies; I say He doesn’t. Simply, I don’t believe God! I say: “God, you didn’t give me the wife and family and job and life I want; you didn’t give me the kind of health and happiness I want; you didn’t give me as much of this world’s money and goods as I want.” God says: “I did.” So now I have a crisis: either God is a liar or I am in the wrong. Repentance and faith in the Gospel solves the issue. Repentance = God is right, I am wrong, He does satisfy with good things. Faith = God forgives my error and unbelief, and I believe He does satisfy. The Gospel = God forgives, saves, and blesses because of Jesus.

A secondary promise comes along with “satisfying with good things:” your youth is renewed. Now we know that He is talking about spiritual blessings in particular and not physical health and temporal life. There is no fountain of youth. No one can deny that he is getting sicker, weaker and older, and that he is dying. But spiritually in the inner man we are getting healthier and stronger and more alive day by day (youth is renewed). 2 Corinthians 4:16: “Though our outer nature is wasting away, our inner nature is being renewed day by day.” We look at the things that are unseen for they are eternal. Faith sees, grows and renews.

Spiritually the Lord has satisfied us with far more than enough, with abundance. Inner strength and youth and vigor are the “good things” that satisfy. And when the inner man is satisfied by faith in Christ then the outer man follows along and enjoys the good things of life, and body and soul are satisfied.
