Promise 215: Word Settled

  1. Word settled

 Psalm 119:89

Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.

The Word of God is settled: it cannot be changed, challenged, discarded, ignored, picked apart, broken, doubted, mocked, debated, relativized, discredited, or disbelieved. God said it and His speaking makes it so; His truth is forever the truth and forever the same; God’s Word will never pass away.

The Word is settled: this is a promise. As a promise to us it is something we can count on: we can count on the promises of the Word. Nothing in heaven or on earth or under the earth can challenge the promises of God’s settled Word. It means that I do not have any reason to doubt any promise in the Word. It has already been settled: I can live my life by the promises I am remembering.

If the word and the promise of God is settled in heaven that is final; and it is forever; it is also settled on earth; then it is settled in my heart as well. By taking this verse as a promise for myself I do have to doubt or wonder or wish. I cannot argue or rationalize the promise away: it is settled. And if the word is settled, so am I.
