- 62. Streams in the Desert
Isaiah 35:6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.
“Then” is the Day of the Messiah, the days of the New Testament, which last from the First Coming until the Second Coming of Christ. “Then” Jesus lived on earth and fulfilled His ministry, part of which included healing the lame and the dumb. These were the kinds of miracles that were blatantly seen and obviously evident. No one could doubt the healings happened. When these healings occurred at the hands of Jesus of Nazareth, everyone could know that the Age of the Promised Messiah had come. The Isaianic prophecy was fulfilled in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
The Age is proclaimed by the miraculous healings of Jesus. Now everyone is called to repent and believe the Gospel for the Kingdom has come. Many people believed in Him and were granted eternal life now and forever. The Promise embedded in this Call is that in the wilderness waters will break out and streams will flow in the desert. This is the promise meant for you and me and all believers in Christ. Into the wilderness and desert of our hearts streams of refreshing life-giving waters will flow. These are living waters; they are the very life of God that washes over us, cleanses out sin, and provides spiritual refreshment. Jesus refers this water to the Holy Spirit who comes to dwell in our spirit.
Because of Jesus’ finished work, the Spirit of God may come into our lives and hearts and powerfully affect our souls and even our bodies with health and life. We confess: “I am dry and empty inside, like a desert.” We believe and confess: “I am refreshed with the living water of life from Jesus, like streams in the desert.” The good news is that this promise is available to me at any time, in any place, and in any circumstance. Let the waters flow!
