147. Plenteous Fruit
Deuteronomy 28:11 And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and n the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
The physical side of this plenteous blessing has to do with the physical land, which the Lord swore with a covenant oath to give the children of Abraham. The spiritual aspect of this plenteous blessing has to do with the spiritual kingdom, which the Lord promises all the “children of Abraham” who believe in Jesus.
Philippians 4:19: “My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” God is rich, naturally; He shares His life with us; we share by grace in His abundant supply. “Riches in glory” suggest the abundance in the Kingdom of God. The kingdom in our hearts is the glory of God in us. We will never be able to fathom the eternal riches in glory that we shall inherit in the eternal new heaven and new earth. All people “desire to be rich,” but the trick is to desire to be rich in the spiritual kingdom of God, the riches that God gives us freely. The problem is that we desire to be rich in this world during this lifetime. I Timothy 6:9: “Those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”
The Bible promises spiritual riches, wealth, and plenteous blessing beyond measure, but not temporal plenty. But if God grants wealth beyond our need we thank Him for it. Meanwhile, we desire to be rich in the fruit of the Spirit. Therein is real and eternal wealth for great living.
