Psalm 47:1, 6-7 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph….Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King; sing praises. For God is the king of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
This Psalm may have written about the time of the Assyrian invasion of Judah by Sennacherib during Hezekiah’s reign. The great and awesome God had miraculously defeated the army. He is a great and terrible King of all the earth. He is worthy of all the loud and boisterous noise we can make.
Raucous praise in our heart is also our response to God for His amazing grace and mighty triumph over our spiritual enemies in Christ Jesus at the Cross and the Tomb. We praise the Lord all day long for His victory, and we gather with fellow believers weekly to give voice to the praise in our heart.
Christ has crushed the power of the enemy army coming against us, saved us, set us free, and given new life. Therefore, we clap, shout, and sing.
