Psalm 40:13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me, O Lord, make haste to help me.
Innumerable evils have surrounded David and his sins have taken hold of him. In the midst of troubles he prays to the Lord and asks for deliverance and help. In the midst of evils in the world without and sins within we are driven to turn to the Lord for deliverance and help. The troubles we endure are always about us and in us, the spiritual enemies of sin, death, and the devil. So we respond by praying without ceasing.
We are always turning and ready to turn to the Lord for help. And because of Jesus Christ, who has given us access to God, we believe and pray. The Gospel assures us that God cares and hears. Sin is always with us, and it won’t let go until death. But so also is Immanuel, “God with us,” to be a very present help in time of need. We can be certain of His help, because He already died and rose for us to bring us into the presence of God. We know we can call upon Him in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks. God is there. He is here. Ask for help.
